United States: American Citizens Should Avoid Travel to Dangerous Countries Including Iran

The U.S. Department of State has once again urged American citizens to refrain from traveling to 20 countries, including Iran, where travel poses "serious risks to personal safety." Iranian officials continue to unjustly detain and imprison U.S. citizens, particularly dual-national Iranian-American citizens, on charges including espionage and threats to national security. Additionally, Iranian officials typically delay consular access to detained U.S. citizens and consistently deny consular access to dual-national Iranian-American citizens. The U.S. government has no diplomatic or consular relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran and is unable to provide normal or emergency consular services to American citizens in Iran. Currently, Reza Valizadeh, a dual-national Iranian-American journalist who traveled to Iran in Esfand 1402, is in custody of Iranian authorities.
