United States' Strong Support for Armenia's Territorial Integrity

The United States has expressed its support for Armenia regarding Azerbaijan's military actions in Nagorno-Karabakh, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining Armenia's independence and territorial integrity. On Saturday, September 23, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken wrote on social media platform 'X': 'I spoke today with Prime Minister Pashinyan of Armenia to express my concern about protecting the rights and security of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. The United States will continue its strong support for Armenia and its sovereignty and territorial integrity.' Simultaneously, Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, stated: 'Antony Blinken, Secretary of State, spoke with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia regarding Azerbaijan's military actions in Nagorno-Karabakh and emphasized U.S. support for Armenia's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.' Matthew Miller added: 'The Secretary of State expressed deep U.S. concern about the ethnic Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh and urged Azerbaijan to protect civilians and adhere to its commitments to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms of the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh, ensuring that its forces comply with international humanitarian law.' Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, stated on Thursday, September 21, that the only solution to end the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis is sustainable peace, and the U.S. will continue to engage with Azerbaijan and Armenia to achieve a lasting solution. On Tuesday, September 19, Antony Blinken had urged Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan, to halt military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh. Separatists in Nagorno-Karabakh reported that following the Azerbaijani forces' attack on their controlled areas, supported by artillery, 27 people, including two civilians, were killed and over 200 were injured. Following Azerbaijan's attacks on 'Nagorno-Karabakh,' more than 27 people were killed and hundreds were injured. Armenia and the U.S. began joint military exercises. The latest border developments in Nagorno-Karabakh indicate that the Islamic Republic is on alert at the borders, while Baku and Yerevan are engaged in diplomatic disputes and accusations.
