Unprecedented Drop in Tehran Stock Exchange; Killing of Haniyeh Disrupts Markets, Dollar Hits 61,000 Tomans

Following the killing of Ismail Haniyeh at a residence in northern Tehran, the Tehran Stock Exchange began its operations with an unprecedented drop, and the dollar surpassed 61,000 tomans. Reports indicate that this drop registered a 1.9% decline in the overall index, marking one of the most significant drops in the stock market's history. In the currency market, the price of each US dollar increased by more than 2,000 tomans compared to the previous day, reaching over 61,000 tomans. In international markets, the price of West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose by nearly 2% to $76 per barrel. Brent crude oil from the North Sea also saw a 1.6% increase, approaching the $80 mark. In the early hours of Wednesday, the public relations office of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that the residence of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political bureau of the terrorist group Hamas in Tehran, was hit, resulting in the deaths of Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards. Government sources in Iran, including the Fars news agency and the Telegram channel 'Quds Force,' reported that Ismail Haniyeh was killed 'around 2 a.m.' According to these sources, Haniyeh was located in 'one of the special residences for veterans in northern Tehran' when he was killed by 'a projectile from the air.' The United States supported Israel's approach in the Gaza ceasefire negotiations.
