Unrest and Chaos in Baltimore, USA

The city of Baltimore in the state of Maryland, USA, has become the scene of intense clashes between rioters and police. Live images from CNN showed that hundreds of young people were engaged in confrontations with police by throwing stones in the afternoon hours of Monday, April 26, local time, following the funeral of Freddie Gray. Several individuals were arrested and a number of police officers were injured. At least two police vehicles were set on fire and several stores were looted. The latest street clashes in the USA are linked to the death of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old Black man who died 15 days ago while in police custody. According to CNN, Mr. Gray was arrested on a weapons-related charge but died due to severe spinal injuries while in custody. NBC reported that this 25-year-old Black man was arrested after a police chase and transferred to a police station, where he died a week later. Official authorities have pledged to conduct a comprehensive investigation into Freddie Gray's death. Elijah Cummings, a representative from Maryland in the US Congress, stated at the funeral of this Black man that he would stand with Mr. Gray's family. Freddie Gray's twin sister also called for calm and stated that her brother did not wish for such violence to occur.
