Penguin Random House confirmed this on Friday and announced the novel's release in Latin America in 2024. While many believed the existence of a manuscript or handwritten version by this author was plausible, the publication of a novel remained mere speculation. Since Gabriel García Márquez published a short story in the Colombian magazine 'Cambio' in 1991, speculation about this book has arisen. The story of Ana Magdalena Bach, a middle-aged woman who becomes involved in a romantic relationship while visiting a tropical island to place flowers on her mother's grave, was apparently the first chapter of the book that Gabriel García Márquez was working on. However, after the death of this internationally renowned author in 2014, known as Gabo, it was believed that the book would never be seen as the author's family was not inclined to publish an unfinished work. Jimmy Ábalo, director of the Gabo Foundation, said, 'Until now, the position of Márquez's two children was that the book should not be published, but apparently they changed their minds after reading the manuscript.' Rodrigo and Gonzalo García, Márquez's children, stated on Friday that they consider this work very valuable and that it should not be hidden from Colombia and the broader world, which has been profoundly influenced by Márquez's acclaimed magical realism stories. They noted that almost ten years after their father's death, they read the story again and described 'We Will See Each Other in August' as a very enjoyable text that contains all the usual characteristics of Márquez's works, especially 'love.' While many details about the book have not yet been released, it will consist of five separate sections centered around Ana Magdalena and will be about 150 pages long. Details about the release of the English version are still unclear. Gabo's books have been translated more than any other Spanish-language author in the world and have inspired many works in the world of art and entertainment. His most famous novel, 'One Hundred Years of Solitude,' is recognized as one of the most influential literary works in the Spanish language.
