Unveiling of the Fateh Mobin Ballistic Missile

On Tuesday, August 13, Iran unveiled the short-range ballistic missile 'Fateh Mobin'. According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Major General Amir Hatami, the Minister of Defense, stated at the unveiling ceremony: 'In the design, production of subsystems, and in the assembly and testing of this missile, we have no dependency and it is completely an internal product.' Amir Hatami added: 'The Fateh Mobin missile can hit any target on land and at sea under all weather conditions, climatic, environmental, and also during day, night, rainy, and foggy weather...' In response to a question about the recent US actions against Iran and the criticisms that some European countries have regarding Iran's missile program, he said: 'It has been repeatedly stated that what is said about the defensive and missile power of the Islamic Republic of Iran is a worthless claim and interference.' The administration of Donald Trump, which exited the international JCPOA agreement, has demanded a halt to Iran's ballistic missile program, and European powers have also declared Iran's ballistic missile program as a factor of instability in the region. While the US claims that according to the UN Security Council resolution, Iran must abandon its ballistic missile program, Tehran argues that the resolution prohibits the use of nuclear-capable missiles. Resolution 2231, which was adopted by the Security Council on July 19, 2015, states: 'Iran is called upon to refrain from any activity related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons for eight years after the first day of the implementation of the JCPOA, including the use of technology related to these missiles.' France, Britain, and Germany have previously expressed concern about Iran's ballistic missile program and its 'destabilizing activities' in the region. Iran developed its missile program after the eight-year war with Iraq, which was accompanied by Iraq's air and missile superiority. American officials told Fox News that Iran tested the Fateh-110 missile last week during a naval exercise in the Strait of Hormuz.
