Update: Three Iranians Released from U.S. Prisons Have Accepted All Court Conditions

Three Iranian prisoners who were pardoned by the U.S. President under an agreement with the Islamic Republic have refused to return to Iran and have accepted conditions that, if violated, will lead to legal prosecution again. According to Voice of America, Kambiz Attar Kashani, Kaveh Lotfollah Afrasiabi, and Amin Hosseinzadeh, after receiving conditional pardons, have committed not to commit any additional crimes against the United States, refrain from legal claims against the U.S. government, and not to demand any money for interviews about their situation. On the other hand, Hosseinzadeh's lawyers submitted a request on Thursday for the permanent closure of his case, referring to previous requests by Hosseinzadeh for permanent closure due to the long wait for a court date. The report states that Kambiz Attar Kashani, an IT manager with dual Iranian-American citizenship, has been released from a federal prison in Michigan after being sentenced to 30 months in prison for violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Kaveh Lotfollah Afrasiabi, a political commentator and writer, and Amin Hosseinzadeh, an engineer, who were both awaiting trial on federal charges, have separately committed to waive all claims regarding funds previously seized as part of their criminal prosecutions. U.S. President Joe Biden wrote in the pardons' letters that if any of them violate one or more of the conditions of the pardon at any time, he or the next president has 'full authority' to revoke the pardon and reinstate the original sentence. Among the five Iranians who were supposed to be exchanged for American prisoners, only Mehrdad Ansari and Reza Sarhangpour Kafarani agreed to return to Iran, while the other three preferred not to leave the U.S.
