US: 163 ISIS Members Killed in Iraq and Syria Over the Past Two Months

The US Central Command, CENTCOM, stated in a statement on Monday that American forces have killed 163 members of the Islamic State group, or ISIS, and arrested 33 others in dozens of operations in Iraq and Syria since late August. According to the statement, from September 8, 2023, more than 95 operations, some of which included attacks in Syria, resulted in the deaths of 163 terrorists and the arrest of 33 individuals, including over 30 senior and mid-level ISIS leaders. The Hill reported that CENTCOM further stated: 'These successful operations have led to the seizure of significant amounts of enemy equipment,' and the ongoing pressure on ISIS leaders has limited their ability to conduct operations and plan attacks. The statement adds that the US military, along with 'security forces in Iraq and Syria,' has recently participated in continuous attacks and operations in these two countries to prevent the resurgence of ISIS after its defeat in 2019. One notable attack occurred in late October, where US forces targeted ISIS camps in the Syrian desert, killing several senior leaders of the group, with CENTCOM reporting that about 35 members were killed. Joint US-Iraq operations on November 1 killed at least seven members of ISIS in central Iraq. Two American soldiers were injured in this operation due to an explosion and were transferred to Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland. Approximately 900 US troops are present in Syria and nearly 2,500 others in Iraq on a mission to combat ISIS.
