US: Approximately 900 ISIS Members Killed in Mosul Operations

A US military official announced on Thursday that at least 900 members of the Islamic State group, ISIS, have been killed since the start of the Mosul liberation operation. Tens of thousands of Iraqi army forces, Kurdish Peshmerga, and Shiite militias have begun their operations 11 days ago and have managed to approach the city of Mosul, which is under the control of ISIS, from three fronts: south, north, and east. General Joseph Votel, commander of the US Central Command, told AFP that the Mosul operation has inflicted heavy casualties on ISIS. While the US reported on Thursday that about 900 ISIS fighters have been killed in the Mosul operation, the number of residents of villages and cities surrounding Mosul who are being displaced is increasing. The United Nations has predicted that up to one million people may be forced to leave their homes due to this operation. General Votel stated that in the week and a half since the operation began, our estimate is that 800 to 900 ISIS fighters have been killed. According to US estimates, about 3,500 to 5,000 ISIS fighters are present in the city of Mosul, with nearly 2,000 more stationed in border areas. General Votel also cited Iraqi military sources stating that since the start of the Mosul operation until Tuesday, at least 75 Iraqi military personnel have been killed and 225 injured. According to Reuters, so far 30 Peshmerga fighters from the Kurdistan region have been killed in the Mosul liberation operation, with between 70 to 100 others injured. In this context, the operations in Mosul continue; ISIS has executed dozens of people, and about a thousand residents from villages near Mosul have been evacuated by special units of the Iraqi army.
