US Army: Houthi Missiles Hit Swiss and German Ships

The United States Army confirmed that Iranian-backed Houthi rebels have attacked two vessels owned by European countries, causing damage to them. The US Central Command, CENTCOM, stated in a notice on Sunday evening that the two ships targeted within 24 hours were the 'MV Tavis' and 'MV Norderny', with the former owned by Switzerland and sailing under the Liberian flag, and the latter owned by Germany and flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda. According to the notice, two anti-ship ballistic missiles were fired from Houthi-controlled areas towards the Gulf of Aden, one of which hit the 'MV Tavis'. CENTCOM reported that the 'MV Tavis' sustained damage but was able to continue its course without any injuries reported. The notice further adds that in a separate incident, the Houthis fired one ballistic missile and one cruise missile at the Gulf of Aden, both of which struck the 'MV Norderny'. According to the notice, the 'MV Norderny' also sustained damage but continued its journey, and this incident also left no injuries. The Houthis had announced hours before this notice that the ships named 'Norderny' and 'Tavis' had been attacked by them. This rebel group also claimed to have targeted a British warship, but the UK denied this claim. Over the past seven months, the Houthis have conducted hundreds of attacks against commercial vessels in the region, claiming to support Palestinians. These actions have complicated international shipping in key routes of the Red Sea, Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and the Gulf of Aden, forcing shipping companies to alter their routes. These companies are now choosing a much longer and more expensive route around Africa to avoid Houthi attacks.
