US Army: 'Syrian Democratic Forces' Breached the Wall of Old Raqqa

The US Army's Central Command states that coalition-supported militants have managed to create breaches in the wall of the old city of Raqqa during the battle against ISIS in Syria. According to the command overseeing operations in the Middle East and North Africa, the 'Syrian Democratic Forces' have succeeded in creating two small breaches in the wall while advancing towards the most fortified section controlled by ISIS in Raqqa. The Central Command has reported that predominantly Kurdish militants, supported by the coalition, are facing heavy resistance around the wall. According to the command's statement, ISIS fighters have entrenched themselves around the wall and are using explosives and landmines to impede the advance of the SDF. These breaches will help the coalition and its supported forces to bypass ISIS's planted mines and enter the old city of Raqqa from their desired direction. The US Army has emphasized that the breach in the wall of the old city 'will save civilian lives and assist the Democratic Forces' in the process of clearing Raqqa. The created holes are approximately 25 meters in size and are expected to aid in the protection of the 2500-meter wall of Raqqa. One day prior to the Central Command's statement, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the 'Syrian Democratic Forces' had managed to cross the Euphrates River and enter the city from the south. This organization monitoring the Syrian civil war states that some SDF militants from the north and some from the south had begun attacks on ISIS positions and in recent days, by closing the southern route, they have been able to complete the siege of ISIS in Raqqa. Raqqa is the most significant urban area under ISIS control in Syria. In this context, the Syrian Army announced a five-day ceasefire in the southern regions of the country, and the US Secretary of State has called for Russia to make a decision regarding Assad's future.
