US B-52 Bombers Fly Over the Middle East

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced in a statement that on Monday, February 18, a "bomber task force mission" was conducted in the Middle East to demonstrate the capabilities of rapid deployment and maintenance of forces and equipment in the region. According to the statement, two B-52 bombers flew from the Fairford Air Base in Britain through nine allied countries in the region under CENTCOM's responsibility, and their mission included aerial refueling and the release of munitions within the territories of America's partner countries. Additionally, US F-15 fighter jets and four allied countries accompanied the bombers throughout this mission. General Michael Kurilla, the CENTCOM commander, stated that the bomber task force missions demonstrate the United States' ability to uphold its commitment to regional security and its capability to respond to any country or group seeking to "expand or escalate conflict" in the CENTCOM area of responsibility. In November of last year, several B-52 bombers and refueling aircraft were sent to the region to ensure the continuation of US military presence during the withdrawal of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier. B-52 bombers, which have the capability to carry nuclear weapons, have been regularly deployed to the Middle East as a warning to the Islamic Republic. US military assets, particularly in the Red Sea, have played a vital role in neutralizing attacks from Houthi forces supported by the Islamic Republic. The Houthis, recognized as a proxy force of the Islamic Republic, seized Sana'a, the capital of Yemen, in 2014 and have been engaged in conflict with a regional coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the legitimate Yemeni government based in Aden. The Houthis, who were placed on the list of terrorist organizations during Donald Trump's first presidential term, were removed from this list with the onset of Joe Biden's administration under the justification of "the possibility of receiving humanitarian aid." Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced on January 24 that an executive order had been issued to initiate the review process for placing Yemen's Ansar Allah, known as the Houthis, on the list of foreign terrorist organizations. According to this order, Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, is required to submit a report on this matter to the President within 30 days, after which necessary actions will be taken to officially designate this group as a terrorist organization. CENTCOM announced the largest naval exercise in the Middle East. General Kurilla discussed "regional strategic conditions" with Israeli military personnel. Iraqi forces, with CENTCOM support, killed five ISIS members. CENTCOM forces killed a senior member of an al-Qaeda-affiliated group in Syria.
