US: Cooperation between the Islamic Republic, North Korea, and Russia Threatens World Peace and Security

On Tuesday, October 3, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken described military cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran, North Korea, and Russia as a threat to global peace and security, calling for international action against it. In a meeting of foreign ministers from UN Security Council member countries regarding Ukraine, he stated, "Tehran and Pyongyang's support helps Putin impose slaughter, suffering, and destruction on the innocent men, women, and children of Ukraine." Blinken noted that nearly two and a half years have passed since the onset of Russia's comprehensive invasion of Ukraine, and said that the question before us today is not what action Moscow will take, as we all know Vladimir Putin will continue his war. The US Secretary of State emphasized the role of the UN Security Council in ending the war in Ukraine and highlighted the importance of the international community's response to the growing military cooperation between Russia, Iran, and North Korea. He stated, "Iran has provided armed drones to the Kremlin since 2022; built a drone manufacturing factory in Russia; transferred hundreds of short-range ballistic missiles to Russia a few weeks ago; and trained Russian soldiers to use them." He referred to the transfer of weapons from North Korea to Russia, stating that the actions of these three countries violate Security Council resolutions, "resolutions that Russia has voted for and has a special responsibility to implement as a permanent member of the council." The US Secretary of State warned Security Council members that "this is not a one-way street, and the more Russia relies on their support, the more Iran and North Korea will gain in return." Blinken further explained, "The more Putin gives to Pyongyang and Tehran, the more it escalates threats to global peace and security; not only in Europe but also in the Indo-Pacific region, the Middle East, and around the world." The foreign ministers of the G7 also emphasized earlier on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic must "immediately" cease all support for Russia's illegal and unjustifiable war against Ukraine and stop the supply of weapons. Following the announcement of ballistic missile transfers from the Islamic Republic to Russia, four countries— the US, UK, Germany, and France— imposed new sanctions on individuals and entities involved in this operation on September 11. Biden at the General Assembly: We must ensure that the Islamic Republic never acquires nuclear weapons. The G7 foreign ministers called on the Islamic Republic to stop its destabilizing actions in the region. The foreign ministers of Israel and Ukraine discussed the missile cooperation between the Iranian government and Russia. The US sanctioned "covert payment networks" between Russia and North Korea.
