US Efforts to Achieve Peace in Gaza; Antony Blinken Discusses with Counterparts in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Turkey

The US State Department announced that Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, held separate phone calls with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Jordan regarding a proposed agreement to end the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Matthew Miller, a spokesperson for the State Department, stated that Mr. Blinken, while flying from Prague to Washington, told his counterparts from the plane that the proposal put forward by the US presidency is beneficial for both Israelis and Palestinians. The State Department also reported that Antony Blinken, in a call with Ayman Safadi, the Jordanian foreign minister, said that the proposal offered to Hamas for an immediate ceasefire could help increase humanitarian aid, allow Palestinians to return to northern Gaza, and initiate the reconstruction of the area, urging Hamas to accept it without delay. Meanwhile, the Kingdom of Jordan announced that it will host an emergency international conference on June 11 (22 Khordad) focused on immediate humanitarian response for Gaza. This conference, titled 'Call to Action; Immediate Humanitarian Response for Gaza,' will be co-hosted by Jordan, Egypt, and the United Nations. The goal of this conference is to identify ways to strengthen the international community's response to the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and to determine effective actions and procedures to address operational and logistical needs. Following the terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7 last year, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the kidnapping of over 250 others, Israel launched an offensive against Gaza aimed at destroying this group supported by the Islamic Republic and retrieving the hostages. The US, UK, EU, Japan, Israel, and several other countries have listed Hamas as a terrorist organization.
