US Efforts to End Military Cooperation Between the Islamic Republic and Russia

The Deputy Spokesperson for the US State Department stated: "There are signs that Russia and Iran are expanding their military cooperation, and the United States will take further actions to end these collaborations." Vedant Patel, speaking to reporters, referred to a recent White House report on the "unprecedented expansion of military cooperation between Russia and Iran," stating: "Iran remains Russia's largest military supporter. The Islamic Republic has previously provided artillery and tank shells for use in Ukraine and has continued to send attack drones to Russia since August of last year." He emphasized: "According to information, since last year, the Islamic Republic has sent over 400 drones to Russia, which are used by Russia to target critical infrastructure in Ukraine." The Deputy Spokesperson for the State Department clarified: "The expansion of this cooperation is not only a threat to Ukraine but also poses a serious danger to Russia's and Iran's neighbors and, in general, the international community." The White House stated on Monday that Washington is witnessing more signs of the unprecedented expansion of military cooperation between Russia and Iran. John Kirby, the Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council, said in a press conference that as part of this cooperation, Iran is delivering one-way attack drones (kamikaze or suicide drones) to Russia, which includes the delivery of over 400 of these types of drones since last August. Kirby told reporters that the growing defense relations between the two countries allow Russia to kill more people in Ukraine while simultaneously enabling Iran to stockpile its military equipment, posing a greater threat to its neighbors. Patel also discussed how these collaborations lead to a serious threat to the international community, stating: "We are talking about bilateral security cooperation flowing from Iran to Russia and from Russia to Iran. This is a full-fledged military partnership and is detrimental to Ukraine and other countries in the region." Patel confirmed in response to a question about whether the IRGC is considered a terrorist organization that, from the perspective of the US, the IRGC is a terrorist organization, but when asked why the US requested the UK not to list the IRGC as a terrorist group, he said: "These are independent decisions that other countries make regarding their own security assessments. We have, of course, taken these steps earlier, and we have other steps planned to respond to the Iranian regime."
