US: Hamas Behaved Like ISIS in Israel; Islamic Republic Should Not Intervene

General Charles Q. Brown, the highest-ranking military commander in the United States, warned the Islamic Republic not to intervene in the Israel-Hamas crisis, stating that the United States does not want the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East to escalate. This warning from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff came after the Lebanese group Hezbollah, which receives military and financial support from the Islamic Republic, fired rockets into northern Israel on Monday, October 9. The White House has stated that the Islamic Republic is complicit in the attacks by the Palestinian Islamist militants Hamas on Israel, but it has no information or evidence indicating direct involvement in the attacks on Saturday, October 7. According to Reuters, General Charles Q. Brown responded to the question of what his message to the Islamic Republic is by saying, 'Do not intervene.' On Monday, Israel bombarded Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of at least three Hezbollah militants. Israel stated that prior to this, one of its soldiers was killed during a cross-border attack for which Palestinian militants in Lebanon claimed responsibility. This limited cross-border violence indicated that a broader conflict between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza (southern Israel) could extend to Israel's northern border with Lebanon. The Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff told reporters, 'We want to send a very strong message. We do not want this conflict to escalate, and our idea is for the Islamic Republic of Iran to receive this message loud and clear.' This is also the first public statement from General Brown since his confirmation for the position of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff last month. The U.S. military is increasing air defense, ammunition, and other security assistance to Israel. The U.S. Department of Defense, the Pentagon, announced on Sunday, October 8, that it is deploying a carrier strike group, including an aircraft carrier, to the region. General Brown stated regarding the deployment of this strike group, 'This is a very strong message of U.S. support for Israel. But it is also sending a strong deterrent message to prevent the escalation of this particular conflict.' The Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff compared the actions of Hamas militants in Israel to those of the Islamic State (ISIS) militants. General Brown previously served as the deputy commander of U.S. Central Command, overseeing military operations in the Middle East and air operations of the international coalition against ISIS. Ali Khamenei referred to the Hamas attacks as a 'epic' and praised its planners. Domestic Iranian media reiterated warnings to the government: a 'reasonable policy' must be adopted. Antony Blinken emphasized support for Israel and efforts to free hostages.
