US: Iran's missile test may violate UN resolutions

According to the White House, there is 'strong evidence' that Iran's recent missile test has violated United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding long-range missiles. Josh Earnest, the White House spokesman, stated on October 13 that this issue is 'unfortunately nothing new.' He added that 'we have previously seen Iran almost consistently disregard global concerns regarding its ballistic missile program.' The US State Department spokesman also mentioned that the United States intends to bring the matter to the UN. Mark Toner stated, 'We will do this every time Iran violates UN Security Council resolutions in any case.' The White House spokesman emphasized that violations related to the missile program are distinct from the nuclear agreement reached between Tehran and six world powers. He referred to the agreement reached on July 14 in Vienna, which led to the lifting of sanctions on Iran in exchange for limiting Tehran's nuclear program. An American official on Monday, October 12, told CNN that the recent missile test in Iran could likely violate a UN Security Council resolution. However, this official also noted that this test does not violate the nuclear agreement. The Iranian Ministry of Defense announced on October 10 the testing of a new missile named 'Emad.' Iran claims this missile is entirely designed and manufactured in Iran and is the first missile in the country that can be 'controlled and guided until the moment of impact.'
