US Media: The First Arrest Related to Russia Investigations Will Soon Take Place

US media reports that the first arrest in the investigation regarding allegations of Russian interference in the US presidential elections is likely to occur within the next day. The investigation is under the purview of Robert Mueller, the former FBI director and special counsel appointed by the US Department of Justice on May 17. Two days prior to the reports on November 7, Reuters and several other media outlets stated that a grand jury formed to examine possible Russian interference in last year's elections has brought charges against an individual in this case. The identity of the person facing charges is not yet known. According to most published reports - citing unnamed sources - the federal grand jury has approved the indictment, and a federal judge has issued it. Now, American media speculate that the indictment may be made public on October 30 (US time). Robert Mueller has been investigating allegations against Moscow regarding interference in the US elections aimed at influencing the outcome. Senior Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin, have denied any interference in the US elections. Mueller is also conducting investigations into allegations related to 'obstruction of justice.' On January 6, senior US intelligence officials stated in a Senate Armed Services Committee meeting that Russia 'undoubtedly' interfered in the US elections and that its 'cyber attacks' pose a 'major threat' to the United States. In October, the US government officially accused the Russian government of cyber attacks on the websites of institutions and political groups to influence the election outcome. The White House has not yet responded to the recently published reports. President Donald Trump has denied any connection or collaboration with Russia.
