US Military Operations in Syria: At Least 35 ISIS Members Killed

On Wednesday, November 1, the United States Central Command announced that US military forces attacked several ISIS camps in Syria this week, resulting in the deaths of at least 35 fighters from the group. According to CENTCOM, in one of these attacks on Monday evening, several locations and some senior ISIS commanders in central Syria were targeted. The US Central Command also stated that recent attacks on ISIS positions in Syria disrupt the terrorist group's ability to plan, organize, and carry out attacks against civilians and US forces and their allies in the region. The US military had previously targeted ISIS militants in Iraq in cooperation with Iraqi forces. Earlier, in late September, the US Central Command announced that four ISIS leaders named Ahmad Hamid Hussein Abdul-Jalil Al-Aytawi, Abu Hamam, Abu Ali Al-Tunisi, and Shakir Abdul Ahmad Al-Issawi were killed in operations in Iraq. Officials at the US Department of Defense, the Pentagon, believe that ISIS remains a threat in the region, but the group is no longer as powerful as it was 10 years ago when it controlled large parts of Iraq and Syria. Additionally, a suspect refugee linked to ISIS was arrested in Germany for allegedly plotting against the Israeli embassy, four ISIS members were killed in Iraq, and an Afghan national was arrested in the US for allegedly planning a terrorist attack on election day. Britain faces an increasing threat from ISIS, Iran, and Russia.
