US Mission to the UN: We Will Present Irrefutable Evidence Regarding Iran

The United States Mission to the United Nations states that it will present "irrefutable evidence" regarding what it calls "Iran's destabilizing actions in the Middle East and the world." According to reports, Nikki Haley will speak about allegations related to Iran's military assistance to the Houthis. According to a statement released by the US Mission to the UN, Ms. Haley, the US ambassador to the UN, will meet with reporters on Thursday, December 14. During this meeting, Nikki Haley intends to present "irrefutable evidence" of Iran's efforts to circumvent sanctions and international obligations. The statement indicates that the US ambassador will discuss "Iran's destabilizing actions in the Middle East and other parts of the world" and "Tehran's deliberate violations of international obligations, attempts to conceal them, and failures in this regard" during the press conference on Thursday. NBC News, citing four US government officials, reported that Washington is preparing documents and evidence related to the shipment of missiles to Houthi rebels in Yemen by Iranian entities. According to these officials, Nikki Haley will display remnants of "short-range ballistic missiles that Houthi rebels have fired towards Saudi Arabia" at the headquarters of the "Defense Intelligence Agency" in Washington. ABC News also states that among the documents and evidence that the US Mission has mentioned, there will be details of the missiles sent to the Houthis. A senior security official told NBC News that Nikki Haley will present "other evidence regarding Iranian weapons, potential violations of UN sanctions, and Iran's destabilizing actions and threats against US allies." Ms. Haley's press conference comes shortly after two Republican representatives in the US announced a proposal to increase sanctions on Iran due to its "destructive role" and "continuation of the war" in Yemen. After Houthi rebels, supported by Iran, fired missiles towards Riyadh in mid-November, tensions between Tehran and Riyadh have escalated. Riyadh and Washington have accused Iran of being involved in this missile attack, a claim Tehran has denied. The Saudi-led coalition imposed a complete blockade on Yemen following this attack. The blockade has faced severe criticism from human rights organizations, and the United States has recently urged Saudi Arabia twice to allow humanitarian aid to reach Yemeni civilians. The UN's World Food Program recently warned that Yemen is on the brink of "a humanitarian disaster." Iranian officials have consistently denied allegations regarding the transfer of weapons and missiles to the Houthis. The Houthis themselves have also denied receiving weapons such as missiles from Iran. However, senior Iranian officials have not hidden their support for the Houthis and have emphasized that they recognize them as Yemen's "revolutionary government." The commander of the Revolutionary Guards also stated earlier this month that "the government [in Yemen] is in the hands of Ansar Allah (the Houthi rebels), and our assistance is mainly advisory and largely spiritual." On December 10, AFP reported, citing a "confidential UN report," that the organization’s experts are still "analyzing data and information." On December 23, the Associated Press quoted a report from the UN Secretary-General to the Security Council stating that the UN is investigating the allegations made and the missiles launched on July 22 and November 4. According to the United Nations, since the escalation of the conflict, following the Saudi-led coalition's attack on Yemen due to the Houthi rebellion, more than 10,000 people have been killed, over two million displaced, and one million have been grappling with a cholera outbreak. In this context, AFP reported that the UN has not yet confirmed the link between the Houthis' missiles and Iran. The Saudi coalition's attack on a prison in Sanaa left "30 dead and 80 injured." Russia's diplomatic activities in Yemen have been suspended due to security concerns. The proposal for sanctions against Iran due to its "destructive role in Yemen" is in the US House of Representatives.
