US Reaction to a Report: We Have No Information on Direct Intervention by the Islamic Republic in Attacks Against Israel

John Feiner, Deputy National Security Advisor of the United States, said on ABC on Monday in response to a recent report by the Wall Street Journal that identified the Islamic Republic of Iran as being behind Hamas's attack on Israel: "We have no direct information to confirm that report. We have seen it, we are reviewing it. But at this time, we do not have the ability to confirm it." The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that, according to senior members of Hamas and Hezbollah, security officials of the Islamic Republic assisted in planning Hamas's surprise attack on Israel. According to this report, officers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had been working with Hamas since August to design aerial, ground, and naval assaults. They stated that the details of this operation were refined during several meetings in Beirut involving IRGC officers and representatives from four Iran-backed militant groups, including Hamas, Hezbollah, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The US government has not yet seen evidence of direct Iranian involvement in this attack, but Israeli officials and some European officials believe that the Islamic Republic played a significant role in the planning and execution of this attack. Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, praised these attacks in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying: "The Zionist regime will be eradicated by the Palestinian people and resistance forces across the region." Israel has blamed Iran, stating that it is behind these attacks, even if indirectly. Gilad Erdan, Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, said: "Iranian representatives in our region have tried to coordinate as much as possible with Iran."
