US Reaction to Court Ruling in Tehran: It Is Worthless and Lacks Legal Standing

On Wednesday, the spokesperson for the US State Department responded to a question regarding a Tehran court ruling that imposed a $50 billion fine on the US for the killing of Qassem Soleimani, stating that Iran's judicial system lacks independence and that the ruling is worthless. Matthew Miller added that the Iranian regime can hold its courts and issue rulings with the presence and intervention of certain individuals, but the United States will continue its work and will do whatever is necessary to protect its people and interests. The 55th branch of the Tehran Public and Legal Court, presided over by Judge Hosseinzadeh, held three sessions and on Tuesday, December 5, ordered the US government and 41 other individuals and entities in the country to pay a fine of $49.77 billion for the killing of Qassem Soleimani. In his press conference, the US State Department spokesperson also commented on the expanding cooperation between Iran and Russia in all areas and the two countries' efforts to circumvent US sanctions, stating, 'We are closely monitoring the behavior of the two countries in various aspects and will implement both new sanctions and measures to prevent sanctions evasion against them.' In response to the Islamic Republic's maritime interventions and the actions of the Revolutionary Guard, he said, 'They continue to seek to foment instability, but we have explicitly warned the Iranian regime to refrain from destabilizing actions, as the United States will take any necessary actions to protect its interests in the region.' He concluded by stating that 'the JCPOA is no longer on the table' regarding negotiations to revive it.
