US: Recent Iranian Missile Attacks Violate the Sovereignty of Iraq, Syria, and Pakistan

On Wednesday, the spokesperson for the US State Department condemned the recent missile attacks by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Iraq, Syria, and Pakistan under the pretext of 'fighting terrorism,' stating that these actions violate the sovereignty of these three countries. Matthew Miller, during his daily press briefing in Washington, said that Iran is both a primary financial supporter of terrorism and a major factor of instability in the region, while simultaneously claiming that such actions are necessary to combat terrorism. In response to claims made by the Islamic Republic, he stated that US forces are present in Iraq at the invitation of the Iraqi government, and recent actions against the Houthis were conducted within the framework of an international coalition following a UN Security Council resolution. The Islamic Republic claims that the presence of US and other foreign troops is a source of instability in the Middle East, while the United States and its allies consider the activities of the Iranian government and its proxies as the main cause of instability in the region. Following the October 7 Hamas attacks on southern Israel and the onset of war with this Iran-backed terrorist group, attacks by Tehran-affiliated groups against Israeli and US interests in the region have increased. This includes attacks by Houthi militants in Yemen, who have targeted commercial vessels in the Red Sea under the pretext of supporting Palestinians against Israel, severely threatening international shipping security. The United States, in coordination with Britain and supported by Australia, Canada, the Netherlands, and Bahrain, conducted joint strikes against the Houthis in Yemen last Friday to reduce their capability to continue attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea. US President Joe Biden also announced on Saturday that the US had sent a 'private message' to the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the Houthis, who are responsible for the attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea. Matthew Miller reiterated in his Wednesday press briefing that 'we continue to send a very loud and clear message... that we do not want to see an escalation of conflict and do not believe they want to see an escalation of conflict either.' The US State Department spokesperson emphasized that the United States will defend its personnel, forces, and national interests, and this principle will not change, asserting that it is not in anyone's interest, including Iran's, for conflict to escalate. The UK has strongly criticized the Islamic Republic for the attack in northern Iraq, which resulted in the death of a British citizen. The contradictory behavior of the Islamic Republic was highlighted by Amir-Abdollahian, who referred to Pakistan as a brotherly and neighboring country. The missile attack by the IRGC on Erbil has been condemned, with the Arab League stating that Iran violated Iraq's sovereignty. Business companies are concerned about the consequences of ongoing tensions in the Red Sea. Blinken announced that the Houthis will once again be added to the list of US-designated terrorist organizations. Pakistan expressed anger over the deadly attack by the Islamic Republic, recalling its ambassador from Tehran. The reactions to the IRGC's provocations in neighboring countries continue, with China calling for 'restraint' from both Iran and Pakistan. The Iraqi Foreign Minister rejected the Islamic Republic's claims, stating that the Mossad does not have a base in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
