US Reports Arrest of Ahmad Khan Rahimi, Suspect in New York Bombing

US officials announced on Monday that Ahmad Khan Rahimi, an Afghan-American, has been arrested as a suspect in the bombing in Manhattan, New York. Rahimi, a 28-year-old US citizen, was apprehended after a shootout with police in Linden, New Jersey. CNN footage shows him injured and being transported by ambulance. Two New Jersey police officers were also injured in the shooting. The FBI has stated that it is identifying and tracking a potential network associated with him. Search teams believe that more individuals may have been involved in the bombing. Rahimi's acquaintances told Reuters that he traveled to Afghanistan a few years ago. The news agency also reported that long before the FBI identified him as a suspect, his family had several disputes and fights with neighbors over their fried chicken restaurant. Neighbors complained about the loud noise from the restaurant. The family lived above the restaurant. Police cordoned off the area on Monday, and witnesses saw them moving packages. One police officer was also seen photographing the house. Three informed US officials stated that the name of this Afghan-American was not on the list of individuals suspected of terrorist activities. The explosion on Saturday night in the Chelsea area of Manhattan left 29 injured, all of whom have been discharged from the hospital. Shortly after the first explosion, security forces discovered and defused another bomb. A bomb also exploded in New Jersey, which did not cause any casualties. Several explosives were also discovered in a backpack at a New Jersey train station on Monday morning. In a recent development, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo stated that the similarities between the bombs that exploded in New York and New Jersey led security officials to conclude that there was likely a 'common group' behind the recent incidents. Cuomo added that contrary to initial analyses, these explosions were likely 'terroristic' and 'linked to outside the US.'
