US State Department Urges Israel to Facilitate Increased Aid to Gaza

On Tuesday, the spokesperson for the US State Department stated, "We believe that Israel needs to do more to allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza." Matthew Miller added, "There is not enough fuel, not enough food available, and not enough water; the number of trucks carrying humanitarian aid entering Gaza has decreased and needs to increase." He emphasized, "We are engaging with the Israeli government at all levels and are working to increase humanitarian aid so that the people of Gaza have access to water and food." The spokesperson also announced that the United States, while cooperating with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to find safe locations for civilians to avoid the dangers of war, is also collaborating with the Israeli government to ensure these locations are protected and not targeted. An Egyptian official reported on Tuesday that fifty trucks carrying humanitarian aid entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing, including two trucks carrying fuel. Israeli officials also announced that on Monday, December 4, 180 trucks of international humanitarian aid entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing in coordination with the US and Egypt. The spokesperson for the Israeli Coordinator of Government Activities stated that this aid includes food, water, medical supplies, and other essential items sent at the request of the US government and in coordination with Egypt, matching the volume of aid sent during the temporary ceasefire. According to the United Nations, before Hamas's attack on Israel, which marked the beginning of the war in Gaza on October 7, over 450 trucks of aid were entering the region daily. The humanitarian situation in safe areas of the Gaza Strip is dire; the UN Secretary-General has called for a humanitarian pause. The US states that Israel's ground operations in southern Gaza will continue for weeks. The expulsion of a UN representative from Israel; the UN humanitarian coordinator did not condemn Hamas's actions. Individuals involved in undermining peace, security, or stability in the West Bank will be barred from entering the US.
