US Think Tanks Warn: Islamic Republic on the Brink of Acquiring Nuclear Weapons; Immediate Action Required

These groups have released a report urging the next US president to rapidly develop 'credible military options' to prevent the Islamic Republic from acquiring nuclear weapons and to adopt a 'coherent and comprehensive strategy' to address the threats posed by the Islamic Republic's nuclear program and its destabilizing activities. They emphasize that the time for diversion and neglect of these threats has ended and that the Biden administration's policies toward the Islamic Republic have been ineffective. The report, supported by nine think tanks and foreign policy advocacy groups, including the Alliance Against a Nuclear Iran, the National Union for Democracy in Iran, Freedom Forward, Christians United for Israel, and the Republican Jewish Coalition, reflects growing concern among a broad segment of the US foreign policy community regarding the Biden administration's reluctance to confront the Iranian government. The recommendations for the next US president include gathering other Western countries to impose sanctions on Tehran's nuclear activities and reinstating a series of economic measures that were initially lifted by the United Nations as part of the 2015 nuclear deal. Preparing the US Department of Defense, the Pentagon, for rapid military options in case of deterrence failure, countering Tehran's foreign influence campaigns through the disclosure of classified information and legal action against Iranian officials involved in efforts to kill Iranian dissidents and American officials, paying more attention to the Iranian government's proxy terrorist groups, and holding the Islamic Republic accountable for their actions. The report warns that the advanced nuclear program of the Islamic Republic, along with its full range of destabilizing activities, demonstrates an urgent need for a coherent and comprehensive strategy to counter these threats.
