US Warns China About 'Support for Russia in Ukraine Invasion'; State Department Official: 'We Will Take Further Actions if Necessary'

On Wednesday, April 30, the United States warned China about its continued support for Russia in the invasion of Ukraine, stating it is prepared to take 'further actions' if necessary. In Italy, foreign ministers from the G7 industrialized nations gathered to emphasize their support for Ukraine's defense. Vedant Patel, Deputy Spokesperson for the US State Department, told reporters in Washington, 'We believe China is supporting Russia's war, and it is doing so by helping to increase the production capabilities of this country.' He added that China is providing significant amounts of machine tools, microelectronics, optics, drones, and cruise missile technology and nitrocellulose to Russia, which is being used to produce weapon fuel. Patel stated that the US believes these materials fill gaps in Russia's defense production cycle and help revive its defense industries. He emphasized that China's support contributes to the continuation of Russia's war in Ukraine, calling it a 'significant threat' to European security. The US official mentioned that the United States has sanctioned relevant companies in China and is ready to take further actions if necessary. Secretary of State Antony Blinken will meet this week in Capri, Italy, with foreign ministers from other G7 countries and representatives from the European Union to discuss issues such as support for Ukraine and the crisis in the Middle East. Blinken is then expected to travel to China to raise Washington's concerns regarding China's support for Russia's defense industries with Chinese officials. During the G7 meeting, Blinken signed a memorandum with his Italian counterpart to combat information manipulation by other countries. He stated that the two countries will cooperate on 'all important issues,' including helping Ukraine defend itself against Russia's invasion, the Middle East crisis, and approaches to challenges posed by China.
