USA: We Demand the Immediate and Permanent Release of Narges Mohammadi

Following the temporary medical leave of Narges Mohammadi, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, from Evin Prison, the U.S. Department of State called for her permanent release from prison. A spokesperson for the State Department stated on Thursday, December 6, in response to a question from the Persian section of Voice of America: "We are aware of the news regarding the temporary release of Narges Mohammadi, Nobel Peace Prize winner, for medical treatment from prison. She should never have been imprisoned in the first place." The spokesperson attributed the deteriorating health of this political prisoner to the "direct result of the regime's harassment in Iran" and reiterated the demand for the immediate and unconditional release of Narges Mohammadi and other political prisoners who are unjustly imprisoned. The spokesperson emphasized that the Iranian regime's actions to silence critics, journalists, and human rights activists, including Narges Mohammadi, must cease. Meanwhile, the British Foreign Office, in response to a question from the Persian section of Voice of America, stated without further explanation: "We do not comment on this matter." Narges Mohammadi has been granted a three-week medical leave to pursue treatment following surgery to remove a tumor and a bone marrow transplant. Mustafa Nili, Narges Mohammadi's lawyer, announced this news on December 5 via the social media platform "X," stating that his client was released from prison due to her health condition after the tumor removal and bone marrow transplant that took place 21 days ago. Farhad Poladi, born in Tehran in October 1972, worked as an English teacher for eight years at the Iran Language Institute; he became a reporter for IRNA in 1998 and has been a reporter for the French news agency in Tehran since 2003. His reporting assignments have allowed him to travel to Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Istanbul, Moscow, and Almaty. The shout of "Women, Life, Freedom" was heard from Narges Mohammadi after her temporary release from prison. The Nobel Committee called for Narges Mohammadi's "permanent release." The UN fact-finding committee demanded the immediate release of Narges Mohammadi.
