USA: We Will Use Military Option Against North Korea If Necessary

Nikki Haley, the U.S. representative to the United Nations, stated on Wednesday that the U.S. is prepared to use military options against North Korea if necessary, but prefers an international diplomatic approach regarding Pyongyang's recent missile tests. According to Reuters, during an emergency Security Council meeting, the U.S. representative said that North Korea's actions are rapidly undermining possible diplomatic solutions to resolve this crisis. She emphasized that the U.S. is ready to defend itself and its allies. The U.S. representative at the UN stated that one of America's capabilities is its significant military force. We will use this option if necessary, but we prefer not to go down that path first. North Korea announced on Tuesday that it successfully tested an intercontinental ballistic missile. Several U.S. officials have confirmed the test of the 'intercontinental missile.' In this context, North Korean media claim that the missile's range reaches U.S. territory. The missile test on Tuesday prompted the U.S., South Korea, and Japan to call for an emergency Security Council meeting on Wednesday. North Korea claims that the missile tested on Tuesday is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead. Nikki Haley stated that the U.S. will present a new sanctions resolution against North Korea to the Security Council in the coming days. The U.S. representative at the UN clarified that Washington is ready to cut trade relations with countries that trade with North Korea. Rex Tillerson, the U.S. Secretary of State, also stated the previous day that 'all countries must publicly show North Korea that pursuing nuclear weapons will have consequences.' The Secretary of State emphasized that 'a global action is necessary to counter this global threat.' The North Korean leader has threatened the United States and South Korea with a 'preemptive nuclear strike.' Pyongyang claims that U.S. military activities with South Korea and Japan pose a threat to its regime and are exercises for its overthrow. U.S. officials, while repeatedly warning North Korea about their readiness to counter what they describe as Pyongyang's military movements, deny conducting exercises aimed at attacking the country, stating that the purpose of the drills with South Korea and Japan is 'defensive.'
