USS Abraham Lincoln Aircraft Carrier Passes Through Malacca Strait and Heads West

According to ship tracking data as of Tuesday, the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, which has recently been present in the South China Sea, has passed through the Malacca Strait. This strait is a strategic waterway that connects the South China Sea to the Indian Ocean. The Associated Press reported this news, citing an anonymous U.S. Navy official, stating that this aircraft carrier, along with three escort destroyers, is moving westward. U.S. Navy officials and other defense authorities have not clearly stated whether the aircraft carrier strike group is heading to the Middle East. However, its current trajectory and position in the Indian Ocean suggest that it is only a few days away from entering that region. This is not the first time in recent years that a U.S. aircraft carrier strike group stationed in the Pacific has been redirected to the Middle East to address regional instabilities. The Abraham Lincoln had also changed course towards the Middle East in 2024. Additionally, in June of last year, the USS Nimitz strike group was dispatched to this region. The U.S. President had previously warned the Islamic Republic about the killing of protesters in Iran and their executions. On Tuesday, January 30, at the White House, Mr. Trump stated: 'Regarding Iran, they were supposed to execute 837 people. I made this clear—and we informed them—that if they did such a thing, it would be a very bad day for them (the Islamic Republic). And they decided not to do it.' However, he emphasized: 'I cannot say what will happen in the future, but apparently, they have taken this off the agenda. They were supposed to do this last week. They were supposed to do it on Thursday, Wednesday—I think they were supposed to execute 837 people—and no one was executed. So we have to wait and see what will happen regarding Iran.' In recent days, Islamic Republic officials have emphasized the execution of protesters and have also had a threatening tone against the U.S. President.
