Vida Mehran-Nia: My husband, Ahmadreza Jalali, has been sentenced to death

Vida Mehran-Nia, the wife of Ahmadreza Jalali, a researcher and imprisoned doctor in Iran, told Radio Farda that Judge Abolghasem Salavati has announced her husband's sentence as "death penalty." Mrs. Mehran-Nia stated that the head of Branch 15 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Tehran asked her husband to end his hunger strike because "his death sentence will not change with the hunger strike." Ahmadreza Jalali, a doctor and researcher residing in Sweden, was arrested in Tehran on April 24 of this year and has since been held in Evin Prison. According to his wife, Mr. Jalali has been on a hunger strike for the past 40 days. Mrs. Mehran-Nia mentioned that even the special investigator of the case told her husband that his sentence is not death, but the interrogators insist on this sentence. Mrs. Mehran-Nia emphasized that her husband has not engaged in any activities other than scientific work, and the accusation of collaborating with enemy countries against him is not true. Ahmadreza Jalali is a researcher at the University of Piemonte in Italy in the field of crisis management, who had traveled to Iran in recent years at the invitation of scientific and research institutions to participate in research and educational programs. Mr. Jalali's wife stated that his entry and exit to Iran had always been without problems until his last trip when he was arrested and held in solitary confinement for more than seven months.
