Vorisheh Moradi's Letter from Evin: We Must Not Allow the Massacres of the 1980s to Be Repeated

Vorisheh Moradi, a political prisoner currently held in the women's section of Evin Prison, stated in a letter: "The flames of war have engulfed the entire Middle East, and we must not allow the massacres of the 1980s to be repeated alongside these foreign wars." In her letter, Moradi emphasized: "This war will continue and will encompass a significant part of the region. Amid these challenges and conflicts, the Islamic Republic, which sought to create a Shiite crescent years ago, now speaks of an Arab NATO and the unity of the Ummah." Moradi believes that "these contradictions, challenges, and rivalries will only result in another sequence of destruction in the Middle East. The peoples and women who have suffered the most from the totalitarian regimes in the region now face the danger of the harms caused by this war." In her letter, Moradi noted: "The increase in domestic issues and the simultaneous repression of freedom-seekers in society occur in parallel with foreign wars. In other words, both issues are closely related. This is a sinister equation in the region, and the Iranian regime is not exempt from this rule." This imprisoned political activist stressed in her letter: "The Islamic Republic is following the same path as in the 1980s, where, alongside the war outside its borders, we witnessed massacres in prisons and among freedom-seekers. It is important that now, as this period evokes memories of the 1980s, we must not allow history to repeat itself!" The letter describes the Islamic Republic's "domestic and foreign policies" as "failed" and emphasizes that "alongside the worsening of economic, political, social, and psychological conditions, the human rights situation in Iran is deteriorating day by day." Moradi also referred to the statistics of executions in Iran this year, stating: "The execution of women has increased by 35% compared to last year." This political activist announced the start of her unlimited hunger strike on the International Day Against the Death Penalty to highlight the current situation, writing: "If you see the killings resulting from war and shout 'no to war' in opposition, you must also see the internal killings and executions that occur daily under the guise of political Islam." This political prisoner concluded by emphasizing, "Do not allow foreign wars to overshadow the issue of domestic repression in society."
