Wall Street Journal: Israel is constructing a new road in Gaza for security control after the war

The Wall Street Journal reported that the Israeli army is constructing a new road in Gaza as part of its plan for security control in the aftermath of the war against Hamas. According to the report, the new road is sandy and is being expanded about five miles from the Israeli border. Since the Israeli army already controls the north-south roads of the Gaza Strip, the new route extends from east to west. The Wall Street Journal states that this new road will allow the Israeli army to have sufficient control over the security of the Gaza Strip in the days following the war when the terrorist group Hamas no longer has power in the region. Israeli officials have emphasized since the beginning of the battle with Hamas that the complete destruction of this group and the end of Hamas's control over the Gaza Strip is their main objective in the war. Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly stated that Israel will take responsibility for the security of the Gaza Strip after the war. However, the United States has strongly opposed this idea, stating that the administration of Gaza after Hamas should also be entrusted to the Palestinians. On November 9, the Israeli Prime Minister revised his previous stance, saying that his country does not seek to conquer, occupy, or administer the Gaza Strip after the war against Hamas, but it is better for a 'credible force' to be present in the region to prevent the repetition of terrorist threats. Hamas took control of Gaza from the Palestinian Authority forces about 16 years ago, but with a sudden attack on Israel on October 7 of this year, resulting in the massacre of about 1,200 people and the taking of over 240 hostages, it entered into a full-scale war with the Israeli army, leading to the destruction of most of the infrastructure in the strip. Several countries around the world, including the United States, consider Hamas a terrorist group.
