Warning About Severe Temperature Increase and Dangerous Summer Rains in Iran

An official from Iran's Meteorological Organization warned of dangerous summer rain showers coinciding with a new heat wave entering the country. The head of the National Center for Weather Prediction and Crisis Management of the Meteorological Organization stated on Thursday, September 1, to the Mehr News Agency that the provinces of Fars, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, and parts of Hormozgan will experience rain showers. Sadegh Ziaian emphasized: "Rain showers in the summer are dangerous because they lead to runoff and flooding; these rains are also accompanied by strong winds." The Meteorological Organization of Iran did not specifically mention the temperature of the new heat wave in Iran, but in August, numerous reports were published on social media by citizens stating that the heat in some cities was unbearable and that even air conditioning could not cope with the extreme heat. According to the organization's forecast, starting from Friday, September 2, with the arrival of the new heat wave in Iran, many areas in the western and northern provinces will witness a temperature increase, and most regions of the country will experience "severe" heat. This report indicates that many areas in the western and northern provinces will once again experience weather warmer than "normal," creating "abnormal" temperature conditions from the beginning of September. Iran has been struggling for years with climate change and drought, which has affected many countries around the world with unprecedented heat.
