Warning from Canada's Security Intelligence Service: Iran's Hostile Activities Threaten Canada and Canadians' Security

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service issued a report warning about the increasing threats from the Islamic Republic, stating that Iran's hostile activities endanger the security of Canada and Canadians and undermine the country's democratic values. In its latest report published on Thursday, May 9, it noted that the Islamic Republic seeks to infiltrate the Iranian community in Canada and gather information about them, while launching a 'shadow war' against Israel by targeting Israelis and Jews. The agency also highlighted a significant increase in Iran's overseas operations in recent years, stating: 'The Islamic Republic is engaging in deadly plots and espionage against its opponents on the soil of Western countries, even targeting and eliminating those it deems enemies.' The report predicted an increase in the Islamic Republic's threatening activities against Canada and its allies in 2024, adding: 'The Iranian government seeks to expand its influence in regional countries including Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon, using proxy groups and militias such as Hezbollah and the Houthis, and has established close relations with Russia, cooperating with it in the 'axis of resistance' against the West.' This report was released on the same day that the Canadian Parliament overwhelmingly voted to list the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization. This resolution is not binding on the government, but Prime Minister Justin Trudeau can use it to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization.
