Warning from the Teachers' Union of Aligudarz about the Condition of Jafar Ebrahimi; He is Struggling with Death

The Teachers' Union of Aligudarz County criticized the 'malicious' treatment of imprisoned teacher Jafar Ebrahimi and his transfer to Qazal Hessar Prison in Karaj instead of being sent to a hospital, stating in a statement on September 4, 2023: 'Jafar Ebrahimi's physical condition is critical, and he is struggling with death.' The union expressed deep concern for Ebrahimi's life, strongly condemning the illegal behavior of Evin prison officials towards individuals, including imprisoned teachers, and urged the authorities of Evin and Qazal Hessar prisons to 'return to the law' and prioritize the lives of prisoners, fulfilling their inherent duty to care for the lives of inmates by transferring him to a hospital for treatment as soon as possible. The Teachers' Union described Jafar Ebrahimi as one of the most concerned activists in the field of education and children's rights, emphasizing that 'his entire life has been dedicated to establishing educational justice and securing the future of the children of this land, and his life has become intertwined with this struggle and imprisonment.' The statement also noted that 'Jafar Ebrahimi developed inflammatory bowel disease in prison in 2009. During his prolonged solitary confinement, which occurred during the arrests in May 2022, not only did his previous illnesses resurface, but he also developed diabetes. As a result, he is at serious risk of losing his eyesight, and thus his transfer to Qazal Hessar Prison will undoubtedly exacerbate his physical condition, leading to a silent death.' The Teachers' Union of Aligudarz County concluded by stating: 'The teaching community of the country cannot tolerate such unlawful behavior. Undoubtedly, the consequences of this negligence will be attributed to the judiciary and prison officials, and we warn them to transfer Jafar Ebrahimi for treatment to a hospital before it is too late; otherwise, there is no guarantee for the coming month.' Erfan Karamvasi, a lawyer, announced on Sunday, September 3, that a new case has been filed against Jafar Ebrahimi by the Tehran Province Prisons Organization. He, along with Kamyar Fakour and several other political prisoners, has been transferred from Ward 4 of Evin Prison to Qazal Hessar Prison in Alborz Province by the decision of the 'Classification Council of Evin Prison.' Karamvasi emphasized that the decision to transfer his clients to Qazal Hessar Prison came despite Evin prison officials having promised to 'address Jafar Ebrahimi's physical condition,' which should have been done 'immediately.' Following the death of Javad Rouhi, another detained protester from the 2021 protests in Nowshahr prison, the judiciary of the Islamic Republic attempted to evade responsibility by claiming that Rouhi had a 'pre-existing illness' that caused his death. Many activists rejected this claim and stated that according to the laws of the Islamic Republic, a sick prisoner who cannot endure imprisonment physically must be released immediately.
