Warning from 'Tuesdays No to Execution': Possibility of Death Sentences for 'Ekbatani' Defendants

The 'Tuesdays No to Execution' campaign announced on Tuesday, November 6, in its forty-first week, that nearly 56 people have been executed since the beginning of November, with at least 23 people hanged just last week. The statement condemned the execution of Jewish prisoner Arvin Ghahramani in Dizelabad prison in Kermanshah, calling the judicial process of his case 'unjust and ambiguous.' In another part of the statement, campaign members warned about the eight young detainees from the 2021 protests in the Ekbatani case, whose trial was held behind closed doors, stating that 'given the serious charges, there is a possibility of death sentences for them.' The statement added that four Baluch citizens named Aido Shahbakhsh, Abdolghani Shahbakhsh, Abdolrahim Ghanbarzahi, and Soleiman Shahbakhsh, who are members of the campaign, have had their death sentences confirmed by the Supreme Court and referred for execution; they could be executed at any moment. The 'Tuesdays No to Execution' campaign has expanded to 24 prisons across the country in its forty-first week and has garnered significant domestic and international support, indicating the determination of the Iranian people to abolish the death penalty.
