What Happened at the Largest Annual Car Show

Every year, coinciding with the Geneva Motor Show, which is considered the largest annual car exhibition in the world, the European Car of the Year is selected based on the votes of automotive journalists from this continent. In 2019, based on the most successful European cars of 2018, seven vehicles reached the final stage. The Jaguar I-PACE, despite its high price, was chosen as the European Car of the Year due to its suitable performance for an electric vehicle and its innovations. The seven finalists included: Mercedes-Benz with its new A-Class, which is considered the smallest Mercedes-Benz car and is viewed by many European media as a practical vehicle for urban use; Peugeot 508, which embodies a new design style for Peugeot that some automotive magazines consider revolutionary; Kia Ceed, which, despite being a non-European car, managed to secure third place; Citroën C5, the largest crossover from Citroën; the new Ford Focus, which has consistently been one of the best-selling cars in Europe over the past decade; and Alpine A110, which reached the final stage but lost to Jaguar due to the votes of British automotive journalists. In the end, the Jaguar I-PACE took first place, followed by Alpine A110 in second, Kia Ceed in third, Ford Focus in fourth, Citroën C5 in fifth, Peugeot 508 in sixth, and Mercedes A-Class in seventh. The Jaguar I-PACE is a fully electric vehicle with a 90 kWh battery that can travel about 400 kilometers on a single charge. It features an energy recovery system that uses brake energy to recharge the batteries and can charge 80% of its batteries in just 40 minutes at fast-charging stations. With two electric motors producing a total of around 400 horsepower, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, making it a competitor to the Tesla Model X.
