What We Know About Taleb Abdullah, Senior Hezbollah Commander Killed in Israeli Attack?

The drone attack by Israel on the evening of June 12 targeted a house in the village of Joya in southern Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of several commanders of Hezbollah, among them "Taleb Abdullah." What was Taleb Abdullah's role? Taleb Sami Abdullah, born in 1969 and known as "Abu Taleb," was a high-ranking field commander of Hezbollah, the militia group supported by the Islamic Republic of Iran, which the United States recognizes as a terrorist organization. The Emirati media "Aram News" reported that Abu Taleb commanded Hezbollah's "Victory Brigade," which is responsible for the group's operations in the central border area of Lebanon with Israel. The Shebaa Farms area, which is occupied by Israel, is also part of the operational area of the "Victory Brigade." Abu Taleb was one of the highest-ranking military commanders of Hezbollah who was killed during more than eight months of escalating tensions between this group and Israel. This tension has intensified following the war in the Gaza Strip. Hezbollah claims it conducts rocket and drone attacks on Israel to alleviate pressure on Palestinians in Gaza. In response, Israel targets Hezbollah positions. So far, more than 300 members of Hezbollah have been killed during this tension. A senior Hezbollah commander was killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon. The Israeli war in Gaza began in response to an attack by the extremist group Hamas on southern Israel; this group, recognized as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the European Union, attacked Israeli border areas on October 6. In that attack, about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, were killed, and over 250 were taken hostage. Several regional media outlets, including Aram News and Al Arabiya, reported that the Israeli drone attack targeted an important meeting attended by Taleb Abdullah and several other Hezbollah commanders, resulting in the deaths of other commanders as well. Lebanese media reported that Ali Soufan, Mohammad Sabra, and Hussein Mohammad Hamid were three commanders who were killed alongside Taleb Abdullah in this attack. Taleb Sami Abdullah was considered a field commander of Hezbollah who had a close relationship with Qassem Soleimani, the former commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Soleimani was killed in January 2020 in a U.S. airstrike on his vehicle at Baghdad International Airport in Iraq. The "Sayed al-Shuhada Brigade," one of the Iranian-backed Iraqi militia groups, issued a statement mourning the death of Taleb Abdullah, referring to him as "a comrade of Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of the IRGC." According to the latest statistics from the Lebanese "Information International" institute, at least 444 people have been killed in Lebanon during the ongoing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah: 334 from Hezbollah forces, 18 from the Islamic Health Organization affiliated with Hezbollah, 18 from the Amal Movement, a Hezbollah ally, seven emergency responders, three journalists, one Lebanese army personnel, and one member of the Syrian National Social Party.
