White House: Biden is aware of reports regarding Israel's attack on Iran's consulate in Damascus

Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House spokesperson, stated that President Joe Biden is aware of reports regarding Israel's airstrike on the Islamic Republic of Iran's consulate in Damascus and that "the team is reviewing (the reports)." Reuters reported that the Iranian consulate in Damascus, the capital of Syria, was destroyed on Monday. Some media outlets close to the Iranian government claim that "the consular building and the residence of the Islamic Republic of Iran's ambassador" in Damascus were targeted in an attack attributed to Israel on Monday, April 1, resulting in the deaths of "five to seven" individuals, including three commanders of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The Islamic Republic's television also reported that Iranian diplomats were among the dead. It is said that 12 others were injured. Images and videos released by Syrian state media and the Islamic Republic show complete destruction of the building. Emergency vehicles were parked outside the incident site, and the flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran was hanging from a pole in front of the rubble. Hossein Akbari, the Iranian ambassador to Syria, claimed that Israel attacked the consulate with an F-35 fighter jet and six missiles, targeting the Islamic Republic's consulate, which is located next to its embassy in Damascus. He added that he was in his office inside the embassy at the time of the attack. The ambassador acknowledged that several Iranian "military advisors" were killed in this attack attributed to Israel. In the terminology of the Islamic Republic's government, commanders and members of the IRGC in Syria and other regional countries are referred to as "military advisors." Hossein Akbari further stated that five to seven individuals were killed in this attack, and their names would be announced later. Extensive damage followed the attack on the Islamic Republic's embassy in Damascus.
