White House: Trump to Announce Strategy on Iran in Coming Days

Sarah Sanders, the White House spokesperson, stated on Tuesday, October 10, that President Donald Trump will announce the overall strategy of the United States regarding Iran by the end of this week. According to Reuters, in response to a question about the timing of Trump's confirmation or denial of Iran's compliance with the nuclear agreement with six world powers, known as the JCPOA, Sanders said: 'He (the President) will announce this matter by the end of this week.' The U.S. President is a critic of the nuclear deal with Iran, calling it a 'shameful' agreement for the U.S. American officials also say he will announce by the deadline of October 15 that Iran has not complied with the nuclear deal. The report also expects that the U.S. President will include the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the list of organizations designated as terrorist entities as part of the new strategy regarding Iran. The White House spokesperson stated on Tuesday that the President has made his decision regarding the overall strategy towards Iran and wants to ensure that a comprehensive policy is in place to address all the issues that Iran creates as a rogue actor. Donald Trump accuses Iran of promoting terrorism and violence, stating that the nuclear agreement with six world powers does not have sufficient mechanisms to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, Iran claims it has no plans to develop nuclear weapons. European leaders have expressed their concerns about the U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear agreement with Iran. British Prime Minister Theresa May also stated in a phone conversation with Trump that maintaining the JCPOA is essential for 'regional security.' According to a law passed by the U.S. Congress, the U.S. government must report to lawmakers every 90 days on Iran's compliance or non-compliance with the JCPOA. Previously, an American official told Reuters that Trump is likely to speak on October 12 regarding the U.S. strategy towards the nuclear agreement with Iran.
