Woman Who Sent Poisonous Letter to Trump Sentenced to 22 Years in Prison

A woman who sent a poisonous letter to Donald Trump, the President of the United States, before the 2020 election has been sentenced to 22 years in prison by a court in Washington. Pascal Cecile Veronique Friar, a 56-year-old with Canadian and French citizenship, was charged with attempting to use a biological weapon and admitted her crime in January of this year. However, she expressed regret that her plan had failed. Friar sent a letter laced with ricin to Donald Trump and several others shortly before the 2020 election. The letter was identified and seized by authorities before reaching the White House. The FBI was able to identify Friar through fingerprints on the letter. After finding the poison in her home, Friar confessed to sending similar letters to several police officials in Texas. She also had a loaded gun in her car when arrested at the Canada-U.S. border. The judge in Washington sentenced her to 262 months in prison, after which she will be deported from the United States. Ricin can cause death within one to three days after exposure. Previously, James Everett Dutschke, an American citizen and former martial arts instructor, was sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2014 for sending a poisonous letter to Barack Obama and other officials. Investigations by U.S. police regarding the poisonous letters sent to the Pentagon and the White House continue.
