Workers of the Offshore Oil Company in Lavan and Siri Demand the Dismissal of 'Incompetent Managers'

Workers of the Offshore Oil Company in the operational areas of Siri and Lavan held another protest on Friday, September 23, emphasizing their occupational and livelihood demands. According to the Telegram channel 'Afkar-e Naft', the protesters called for the dismissal of 'incompetent managers', complete removal of salary caps, removal of retirement caps, full payment of severance, refund of excess withheld taxes, full implementation of Article 10 and payment of back pay, and the non-merger of the oil workers' pension fund with other bankrupt funds. Based on 'Article 10 of the Law on the Duties and Powers of the Ministry of Oil', which was approved by the Islamic Consultative Assembly in May 2012, the administrative-employment system and the status of salary and benefits payment for employees of operational and specialized units in the Ministry of Oil's subsidiaries are not required to comply with the Civil Service Management Law and are prepared by the Ministry of Oil with the approval of the Vice President for Management Development and Human Capital. However, despite more than a decade since the approval of this law, many employees in Iran's oil and gas industry continue to protest the non-implementation of it and the injustice in their wage situation. Previously, operational staff of the Ministry of Oil had stated in an interview with ILNA news agency that operational work 'cannot be compared to other jobs', thus 'these workers cannot be considered subject to the Civil and Military Services Law.' According to 'Afkar-e Naft', the protesting operational staff in the South have announced that they will continue their gatherings regularly until the 'voice of their respected and oppressed colleagues in the operational areas' is heard. The protest on Friday by the official employees of the Iran Offshore Oil Company in the operational areas of Siri and Lavan is a continuation of their protests from previous months. Workers from third-party contractors of the Ministry of Oil, along with support workers from the contracting companies of the first, third, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth gas refineries in South Pars held a gathering on Tuesday, September 20.
