X Suspends Ali Khamenei's Italian Language Account

The social media platform X has suspended the official Italian language account of Ali Khamenei due to "violation of regulations." Upon visiting Khamenei's Italian account on X, a message stating "the account has been suspended" is visible. Below this message, it is explained that the platform suspends accounts that violate its regulations. An image of Khamenei's suspended account in Italian was also reported by the Islamic Republic News Agency on Wednesday, November 30, stating that the X platform has blocked the account of the leader of the Islamic Republic. This is not the first time that X has suspended accounts belonging to Ali Khamenei. For instance, in October, Khamenei's Hebrew language account was deleted just one day after its launch on X. Additionally, Khamenei's Azerbaijani language account had also been previously blocked. The activities of Iranian officials, including their leader Ali Khamenei, on social media occur while the government intensifies its policy of imposing restrictions on users' internet access and filtering, limiting Iranians' access to free internet and controlling the virtual space. Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, has previously described the virtual space as "truly free" and "unrestrained" and has called for its "regulation" as a priority through the establishment of a "national internet" or in plans like "protection." In this context, the Islamic Republic has so far filtered American-based social media platforms such as "Facebook, X, and YouTube" with strict restrictions, but Iranian users typically access these platforms using VPNs. The article also mentions recent developments including a new resolution presented to the Board of Governors, a phone conversation between Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Araqchi and IAEA Director General Grossi, warnings from the Islamic Republic to Europe regarding the issuance of a "resolution" against Tehran, the closure of the U.S. embassy in Kyiv amid increased likelihood of a "major attack" by Russia, and European countries reaching an agreement to strengthen defense cooperation.
