Yale University: 2,400 Ukrainian Children Forcibly Transferred to Belarus

New research results published on Thursday, November 16, by Yale University show that since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, more than 2,400 Ukrainian children have been forcibly transferred to Belarus. The findings from Yale's humanitarian research provide the most comprehensive information regarding Belarus's alleged role in the forced relocation of Ukrainian children by Russia. The report indicates that Ukrainian children aged 6 to 17 have been transferred from at least 17 cities in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories. Yale University has identified over 2,000 children who were moved to the Dubrava Children's Center in the Minsk region of Belarus between September 2022 and May 2023. Additionally, more than 390 children were transferred to 12 other centers. Katerina Rashveska, a legal expert in Kyiv, states that this is in addition to approximately 20,000 Ukrainian children who have been forcibly taken from Ukraine to Russia since the war began. The Ukrainian war crimes prosecutor is investigating the forced transfer of Ukrainian children as a potential 'genocide.' Meanwhile, local Ukrainian officials report that shelling from Russia on Thursday, November 16, killed two people and injured at least 12 others. Alexander Prokudin, the governor of the region, stated that a 75-year-old woman was among the victims who died in her apartment in Kherson. British Foreign Secretary David Cameron has also visited the port city of Odessa to express his support for Ukraine's military efforts. This visit marks the first trip by a former British Prime Minister since his appointment as the new Foreign Secretary. It is the first time a British diplomat has visited this port city, which has been targeted multiple times by Russian airstrikes. The British Foreign Secretary stated that his country will continue to provide any necessary support to Ukraine and will not withhold military assistance for as long as the war lasts. This comes as Ukraine faces significant challenges in its counteroffensive, including global attention shifting to the Israel-Hamas war, the European Union's inability to supply all promised munitions, and political tensions in the United States. Britain claims that its $5.7 billion military aid to Ukraine ranks second globally after the United States, and the country has trained 30,000 Ukrainian soldiers. Cameron stated, 'Russia believes that the West will eventually turn its attention elsewhere, but I have made it clear to President Zelensky that Britain will support Ukraine and its people until victory.'
