Yashar Tabrizi and Kazem Alinajad Transferred to Solitary Confinement; 8 Days of Hunger Strike and Concerns for Zahra Sarv

News and human rights sources reported that amid increasing pressure on political prisoners in Iran, Yashar Tabrizi and Kazem Alinajad were transferred to solitary confinement, raising concerns about the health status of Zahra Sarv, who is on a hunger strike. Yashar Tabrizi's account on the social media platform 'X', managed by an admin, announced that this imprisoned human rights activist has not contacted his family since 'Monday of this week', causing 'intense concern' among his relatives. According to this report, 'he was transferred to solitary confinement for supporting and chanting for freedom in response to the news of the release of one of his fellow inmates in Ward 4 of Evin Prison', and in addition to him, 'several other prisoners are in the same situation.' This constitutionalist civil activist was arrested in Tabriz on the eve of the anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death and the nationwide protests of 2022 and was transferred to Evin Prison in Tehran. Previously, in a message from prison, he emphasized the demand for 'democracy, freedom, peace, and equality for all Iranians', and 'protest against oppression and injustice', stating, 'this ruling group is even afraid of our voices reaching the people.' Furthermore, HRANA, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, reported on Thursday, December 9, that in addition to Yashar Tabrizi, Kazem Alinajad Baranlu was also 'punished' by being taken to solitary confinement in Evin Prison. A source close to the families of these two prisoners told HRANA that 'the transfer of these individuals to solitary confinement was due to chanting slogans in protest against their poor conditions in prison.' Kazem Alinajad Baranlu, a citizen from Tabriz, is another defendant in a joint case formed against several constitutionalist political and civil activists. Ali-Asghar Hosseini-Rad, Meysam Gholami, Vahid Sarkh-Gol, Vahid Qadirzadeh, and Arsham Rezaei are other political prisoners related to this joint case. In another report, Golara Abbasi, a civil activist, announced that Thursday, December 9, is 'the eighth day of Zahra Sarv's hunger strike', expressing concern for her health and stating that 'the women's ward has no phone access on Thursday and Friday', which increases worries about her. According to previous reports, Zahra Sarv, a political prisoner held in the women's ward of Evin Prison, needs surgery for her 'right knee meniscus'. Her demands are 'the cessation of case-making' and 'consideration of her request for conditional release', and she has announced that she intends to continue her hunger strike until these demands are addressed. On Tuesday, December 6, a source informed VOA that on the fifth day of her hunger strike, 'her blood sugar dropped to 74 and her blood pressure to 75 over 50.'
