Yasser Rahmani-Rad Charged with 'Spreading Falsehoods and Disturbing Public Minds' in Khorramabad Prosecutor's Office

Yasser Rahmani-Rad, a doctor in Khorramabad, appeared on Saturday, August 5, at the third branch of the public and revolutionary prosecutor's office in this city based on a previous summons. According to reports received by Voice of America, Mr. Rahmani-Rad was charged with 'spreading falsehoods and disturbing public minds' due to his posts on social media, including a note about protesters who were injured in the eye due to gunfire from Islamic Republic forces. Last week, this doctor wrote on his Instagram page, referring to what he described as 'shamelessness and audacity in lying within the political system of Iran,' stating that this is an 'epidemic and one of the main characteristics' of the Islamic Republic. He criticized the Islamic Republic for adopting 'Goebbels-like methods' and wrote that this 'method and system have been tested by all dictators in history and have always led to their downfall.' A source told Voice of America that following the issuance of a bail order for this doctor, he was able to return home by posting his father's paycheck. According to this report, he has been informed that he will be summoned again to address his charges. Yasser Rahmani-Rad, last December, along with Behnam Ohadi, a psychiatrist, and Homayoun Eftekhariannia, an operating room technician, was arrested while traveling to the city of Mahabad to assist the injured during protests and was released on bail after 46 days of 'imprisonment and torture.' He then stated in mid-June of this year on his Instagram page: 'I am in complete mental and psychological health and have no intention of suicide nor any underlying illness.' This doctor from Khorramabad added: 'I have exposed many of the tortures I have experienced and the signs of torture I have seen on other prisoners in other prisons in Iran' in interviews with predominantly Persian and non-Persian media. His reference was to the time he spent imprisoned in Mahabad. Yasser Rahmani-Rad's emphasis on his health and lack of intention to commit suicide was announced after Mansoureh Sagvand, a former honorary member of the police force in Abdanan, suspiciously died on June 4 after resigning in protest from the police. The cause of her death was reported as 'cardiac arrest.' This was while, according to the '1500 Images' account, Mansoureh Sagvand, who had been detained for some time, wrote in a message to a friend: 'I am constantly being threatened with death by the intelligence services. If something happens to me, I want everyone to know I did not commit suicide.' Yasser Rahmani-Rad introduced himself on his Twitter page as 'a dismissed pediatric specialist assistant, a dismissed doctor from Haft Tappeh, and recently a jailed rescuer.' About three years ago, when he was a doctor at Haft Tappeh, he was dismissed for supporting the workers' strike at the company. The suspicious death of Mansoureh Sagvand in Abdanan, who said if something happened to her, know she did not commit suicide, has raised concerns. A member of the state parliament in Germany stated: 'Yasser Rahmani-Rad has been threatened with death.'
