Young Rapper Eysin Released on 500 Million Toman Bail

Arash Sayyadi, the rapper known as "Eysin," who was arrested during an underground concert in Tehran, was released on Saturday, March 4, after posting a bail of 500 million tomans. According to the HRANA news agency, the news organization of human rights activists in Iran, his release was secured by this bail. He was detained on Thursday, March 2, by agents of the Islamic Republic's security police during an underground concert in Tehran and was transferred to the detention center of this security agency. Mr. Sayyadi, born on January 29, 1999, is a rapper and resident of Tehran. He is one of the young Iranian rappers who pursue their artistic activities underground and has gained fame in recent years. Due to the lack of legal permits for holding many rap music concerts in Iran, some of these rappers perform in private and small events for their fans. Although the Iranian government has somewhat reduced the obstacles and restrictions in the field of pop or rock music in recent years, it still confronts rap music, especially those singers who address political and social issues. In this context, Tomaj Salehi, a protesting rapper, announced on February 9 that he had been summoned to court on February 19 for releasing the song "Typhus" and faced several charges. In "Typhus," Mr. Salehi criticizes pro-government rappers. In his video message, he explained that this music is considered a "diss track" and stated, "Only if the individuals targeted in this song show up with their national ID and file a complaint, there is a need for court, and I don't know what it has to do with the judiciary and intelligence agencies." A "diss track" refers to a song that verbally attacks another rapper. In "Typhus," Mr. Salehi describes government-affiliated rappers as "big-mouthed," "blood merchants," "sycophants," "slaves of the regime," and "promoters of vice."
