Zahra Mousavi, daughter of Mir Hossein Mousavi, expelled from Alzahra University

Zahra Mousavi Khameneh, an assistant professor and member of the faculty of arts at Alzahra University, and daughter of Mir Hossein Mousavi and Zahra Rahnavard, leaders of the Green Movement, has announced her definitive expulsion from the university. On Wednesday, July 10, she published documents indicating her expulsion on her Instagram account, stating: "In the midst of the recent election turmoil, on June 16, I was expelled from the university for the second time, this time definitively. In both instances, security agencies played a key role." According to the images of the issued decree and documents shared by Mousavi, this decision was made following a complaint from the university's security regarding her support for students concerning optional hijab. The assistant professor also emphasized in her published text that she was expelled from the university, after nearly 20 years of teaching, due to the opposition of the Ministry of Intelligence to her employment status change. She noted that this "expulsion is nothing compared to the grief, prisons, poverty, injustice, and other calamities we have faced for 15 years," and mentioned the role of the Ministry of Intelligence in vetoing her career advancement during the past three administrations. Mousavi stressed that for the past 13 years, following the house arrest of her parents, her salary had been suspended and then cut off. Zahra Rahnavard and Mir Hossein Mousavi have been under house arrest since February 2011, following a call for a rally in support of the protests known as the "Arab Spring," imposed by security officials. In another document dated April 18, 2024, which Mousavi published in this Instagram post, this university professor was sentenced to a written warning recorded in her file by the disciplinary committee of the university's faculty due to a confrontation with security agents over what was termed "insulting a government employee while performing their duties." The university's security report referred to several confrontations with Zahra Mousavi over her defense of the dress code of female students. At the end of her Instagram post, Mousavi, referring to the problems and harassment she has faced over the years, mentioned the opportunity to be with the new generation and emphasized that with these children of the homeland, "the future is truly bright."
