Zahra Rahnavard Transferred to Hospital for Eye Surgery

According to reports from Iran, Zahra Rahnavard, the wife of Mir Hossein Mousavi, a leader of the Green Movement, was transferred to the hospital on Wednesday evening, June 6, for eye surgery. Mr. Mousavi accompanied his wife to the hospital. According to the website Kalemeh, close to Mir Hossein Mousavi, the surgery was performed by a 'trusted government and detainee physician,' and Mir Hossein Mousavi also accompanied his wife during the transfer to the hospital. According to this report, 'prison guards' did not inform Mrs. Rahnavard's family and children about her transfer to the hospital, and her daughters learned about the 'successful completion of the surgery' through a phone call with their father after the operation. Zahra Rahnavard had also undergone eye surgery at Noor Hospital in Tehran on Friday, October 10, 2014. Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi, the Minister of Health in Hassan Rouhani's government, is the head and one of the doctors at Noor Eye Hospital in Tehran. Mir Hossein Mousavi was also transferred to the hospital for heart failure on May 14, 2014, and for eye surgery on September 20 of the same year. Mir Hossein Mousavi, Zahra Rahnavard, and Mehdi Karroubi, another candidate protesting the results of the 2009 presidential election, have been under house arrest without trial since February 2011. Mehdi Karroubi was transferred to his home in Jamaran after three years of 'detention' in a 'safe house' of the Ministry of Intelligence and is currently under house arrest at his home. The families of these three individuals have repeatedly expressed concern about their physical condition over the past years. For instance, Narges Mousavi, the youngest daughter of Zahra Rahnavard and Mir Hossein Mousavi, reported on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, serious concerns about her mother's health, attributing this situation to 'strictness and negligence' experienced during her mother's house arrest. Meanwhile, the Kalemeh website on Sunday, April 12, emphasized that monitoring their health and treatment status is in a 'worrisome suspension.' In this context, the United States has called for the release of Rahnavard, Mousavi, and Karroubi. Mehdi Karroubi's son stated that his father is happy with the path of nuclear negotiations.
